Foam
Injections for Varicose Veins
Vasculite
are delighted to offer a State of the Art treatment for eliminating varicose
veins. Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Gardner have considerable experience in both
the surgical management and injection treatment for varicose veins. For
some years now the use of injection "foam" has been practiced in Europe,
USA and Australia. Foam injections often allow even large varicose veins
to be treated as an outpatient procedure with minimal inconvenience. In
some cases it may be necessary to have limited surgery carried out under
local anesthetic before having the injections.
Why
is this treatment more effective than other treatments ?
Sclerotherapy has been the mainstay treatment for varicose veins for many
years. However, standard sclerotherapy does have very limited success
with large veins. Studies have highlighted that by adding small quantities
of air to injection solutions, creating a "foam" like solution, the effectiveness
is greatly improved. When fibrovein liquid is mixed with a small amount
of air it becomes a very fine mousse. This is highly visible on ultrasound
when injected into a vein and can be precisely controlled allowing only
specifically targeted damaged veins to be treated. This treatment has
been used on thousands of patient¹s abroad with great success and the
procedure can be performed in an outpatient clinic in 30 60 minutes.
Before you are offered treatment you will require a Duplex Ultrasound
Scan ( painless and non-invasive ) to make an accurate diagnosis of your
varicose veins.
What
are the possible risks of treatment?
- You
may experience bruising at the site of the injection, but this is only
temporary.
- Temporary
discolouration along the treated vein which can take up to 6 months
to fade.
- Allergic
reactions to fibrovein are uncommon but may present as a skin rash,
local swelling or itching. If you have any history of allergy please
tell us beforehand.
